Primary school children in Seaton, Beer and Colyton support Lions’ worldwide challenge

Primary school pupils across East Devon have been busy planting for the future – thanks to Seaton and District Lions Club.

As part of a global challenge president Dennis Morgan and fellow members presented a number of fruit trees to youngsters in Seaton, Beer and Colyton.

Each school has received a selection of apple, pear and plum trees, which the children and their adult helpers will care for.

Tesco, in Seaton, also donated a supply of a growing medium to ensure the young trees have a really good start.

The planting was part of the Lions’ ‘One Million Trees Campaign’, launched by international president Wing-Kun Tam. He has

challenged members around the world to plant that number of trees during his year in office to demonstrate the strength of the organisation’s global network.

The target has already been easily surpassed – with 9million trees having already been planted - 15,202 in the United Kingdom.

A spokesman for Seaton and District Lions said: “Our local tree planting has made a small contribution to the total but it does emphasise the fact that alone we can do little but together we can achieve so much.”
