A Dunkeswell flying instructor has soared to new heights after setting a world record for the most aeroplanes flown solo in one day.

Jim Greenshields flew 43 aeroplanes from Dunkeswell aerodrome to an altitude of 2000ft and back to set the Guinness World Record, which is subject to confirmation.

Starting at 5.30am, it took 13 hours for Jim to complete the attempt, which was done to raise much-needed funds for the Make-a-Wish Foundation UK, who fulfill wishes for children with life threatening conditions.

He has thanked all the aircraft owners who donated their planes for the day and the ground crew who made the record attempt possible.

The aircraft flown on the day ranged from a vintage Tiger Moth biplane , World War II spotter planes and a World War I fighter replica to modern fast glassfibre aircraft.

“We could have flown more but we simply ran out of aeroplanes , maybe next year ?,” says Jim .
