Towns and villages across East Devon turned out in force to honour the victims of war at Remembrance Sunday services yesterday (November 12)

At Axminster a large crowd gathered around the war memorial to hear the names the town’s war victims read out by co-ordinator Mervyn Symes before the two minutes’ silence and watch the laying of poppy wreaths.

Earlier uniformed groups and members of local organisations paraded from the South Street car park to the Minster Green, lead by piper Brian Young.

At Honiton, a remembrance parade took place from New Street before an intimate ceremony was held at St Paul’s Church.

After the ceremony, the wreaths were laid by the town’s war memorial.

At Kilmington Commander Stafford Seward RN (ret’d), chairman of the village branch of the Royal British Legion set off maroons to mark the two minutes’ silence.

The Remembrance Sunday Service followed in the Baptist Beacon Chapel where a brilliant array of knitted poppies greeted more than 160 people

At Seaton the RBL branch lead the Act of Remembrance at the War Memorial in St Gregory’s Churchyard, prior to morning service..
