Honiton Senior Voice calls on regulator to block six per cent rise announced by British Gas.
Pensioners will be badly affected by ‘remorseless’ energy price hikes this winter, according to Honiton Senior Voice.
It is calling on the energy sector regulator to block the six per cent rise announced by British Gas.
The lobbying group is also writing to local MP Neil Parish, calling for an increase in winter fuel allowances
Vic Bowsher MBE, chairman of Honiton Senior Voice, said: “Many of our members will be badly affected by this remorseless rise in fuel prices just as winter approaches and they need more heating.
“Energy prices are now ramped up every year. It is estimated that even if pensioners get the lowest tariff it could increase their bills by another £100 or more.
“How are they to afford this, especially those on fixed incomes some of whom suffer conditions that require extra heating?”
He added: “More and more people are falling in to fuel poverty – with elderly people this could mean a rise in hospital admissions and deaths.”
