Helicopter, lifeboat and coastguards join hunt for photographer feared to have fallen from Lyme’s Cobb harbour during high winds
Emergency services were scrambled last night (Saturday) after reports that a man might have been blown from the harbour at Lyme Regis.
A 90 minute search involved the town’s RNLI lifeboat, coastguards and the coastguard helicopter from Portland.
A couple from Weston-super-Mare, Tim Cameron and his partner Debbie Rich, saw a man taking photographs on the wall in the south west corner of the harbour.
Mr Cameron said: “We thought it was a bit silly to be on the wall in such windy conditions, but when we turned round again after about 30 seconds the man had gone.
“We called 999 just in case, but we explained that we did not see the man fall.”
After a widespread search by coastguards and lifeboat crew ashore, and by the lifeboat in 18 foot waves, with the helicopter using its searchlights, nothing was found and the search was called off.
