Last month’s reported incidents in the Seaton rural policing division were up 150 per cent on the previous December

Villains had a busier December in the Seaton rural policing division than in the previous year.

There were ten reported crimes - up from four in 2012, an increase of 150 per cent.

But the total is still below than the monthly average of 12 crimes for December since 2004.

Neighbourhood beat manager PC Steve Speariett said last month’s crimes were dominated by acquisitive offences (5) and domestic related incidents (3).

He said an arson attack on a car at Colyton was of particular concern as this was a highly unusual offence for this area.

“Enquiries are ongoing but indications are that this is a one-off incident and we have increased patrols in the area,” he said.

The offence took place on December 4 at about 9.40pm when a green Mazda which was parked at the junction of Gribblemead and Hillhead was deliberately set on fire to causing extensive damage.
