Road trip challenge for fundraising trio

A Honiton fundraiser teamed up with his friends to help terminally ill children by taking on a driving challenge of over 2000 miles.

Steve Mingo, with his friends Matt Hemmings and Nick Findlay, who form Project Zenz, raised more than £600 for Rays of Sunshine after completing a road trip from Honiton to Land’s End and John O’Groats back to Honiton.

“Our target was to raise £500 and to easily surpass that was brilliant. I’m assured that the money donated will easily pay for a terminally ill child’s wish to be granted. At some points during the challenge it would have been easy to give up but the donations and messages of support reminded us why we needed to see it through,” says Steve.

The trio clocked up 2006 miles in total during the five day driving adventure, which was done in a 2001 Toyota Avensis, donated by Richard Harris of Honiton Garage. Steve added: “We are incredibly thankful for the help and support from Honiton Garage and To and Fro car hire.”

As part of the fundraising challenge the trio had to overcome plenty of navigational challenges as they had to avoid using motorways and were not allowed to use sat navs.

The team have thanked everyone who sponsored and supported them. They are already looking to holding further fundraising events in the future.

Steve said: “We have got further fundraising challenges planned, now that we’ve broken the ice we’d like to do something even bigger and better. We encourage motoring enthusiasts to keep an eye on our website as we’d like to invite other teams of cars to join us on a cross-Europe challenge sometime in 2016. With more people taking part in Project Zenz we can raise even more money.”
