Enjoy a historic Roman weekend for free!
Honiton will take a step back in history as the town prepares to be invaded by a Roman army on Saturday, August 31.
Exeter-based social enterprise, The Carousel Project is launching the history-based event in partnership with the Honiton and Axe Valley Children’s Centres and the Blackdown Hills AONB partnership.
The group will host the event at Otter Valley Golf Club, with activities kicking off at 1pm and ending at 4pm.
Visitors will get to make shields, take part in a Roman army drill, receive their Roman diploma and enjoy much more.
The event is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Sustainable Development Fund, so is free for all to attend.
Marie Leverett, project manager at The Carousel Project said: “We’ve had great feedback about our local heritage themed activities in the Blackdown Hills this summer and look forward to sharing what we’ve been up to with the wider community.
“The Carousel Project specialises in creative learning for early years children and the aim of the Local Stories project is to demonstrate that with innovative and thoughtfully planned activities, local heritage can be accessible and fun for all ages and help children and their families to feel connected to their local area.”
