Former Axe Valley youth leader donates fees from his maritime talks to the services’ charity

Two former Axe Valley youth workers have presented a cheque for £250 to Help for Heroes.

Peter and Barbara Lacey handed over the money to the charity’s representative , Richard Lupton, during a ceremony at Lyme Regis’ historic Cobb harbour last week.

The money was raised through Mr Lacey’s series of talks on maritime history, given to local originations.

The former outdoor pursuits instructor and youth worker speaks on three different topics to local organisations.

The first is The History of Maritime Lyme Regis 774 to 2010, based on his book, published in 2011.

The second is Tall Ship Sailing, based on his five voyages of over 6,000 miles as crew to destinations including Lisbon, Oporto, Malta, Riga and the Azores.

And the third is The History of Clipper Ships, English, American and Dutch in the Cutty Sark era.

Currently Mr Lacey is researching Elizabethan Lyme Regis with the intention of publishing a monograph on the subject and adding to his list of talks.

So far his lectures have raised £900 for Help for Heroes.
