Detectives have released CCTV images of a man and woman they believe could hold vital information about the theft of cash collected for the family and crew of heroic trawler man Geoff Ingram, who died at sea in September.

Fundraisers collecting for the Sarah Jayne Fund were horrified last month when a heartless thief broke into the Dockside Café and stole a pot of cash of kind-hearted donations collected for the family and crew of Geoff.

Police are appealing for anyone with information about the pair, who may know their identity, to get in touch.

PC Ian Johnson said any information, no matter how small, could help trace the culprit who stole cash raised to help those closest to married dad-of-two Geoff, who died tragically aged 51 when his fishing boat, Sarah Jayne, capsized and sank two miles off Berry Head.

PC Johnson said: “There is also forensic evidence which can be used to eliminate people from the enquires.”

Part of the Sarah Jayne Fund was stolen from a glass jar containing cash at around 2.30am on October 18 when the thief broke into the Dockside Café through a downstairs rear window.

The thief ignored other collection tins on the counter, making off with around £50 from the Sarah Jayne Fund.

Geoff, of Brixington, died a hero when he sacrificed his life to save his crew – ordering them off the stricken vessel two miles off Berry Head before returning to the sinking boat to raise the alarm.
