Big cash award for church group that proves there really is such as thing as a free lunch
Seaton’s Freedom Café has been given a £3,000 boost from the Lloyds Bank Community Fund.
The volunteer organisation, based at St Gregory’s Parish Church, will use the money to buy some high chairs and a baby changing station, as well as some much needed equipment for the kitchen.
Team leader Mary Casey said: “We would like to say thank you to everyone who took the time and effort to vote for us, and especially for Emily who nominated our free community Café for the award. We would also like to thank our wonderful volunteers for all their support.”
The free community café is open on the third Saturday of each month from 10.30am to 1.30pm at St Gregory’s Church Hall, Colyford Road Seaton. Everyone is welcome whether they live, work or are just visiting the resort.
The group has been serving free food at Freedom Café for the last four years, and in December the team was pleased to welcome more than 250 people.
Mrs Casey added: “We have a fantastic menu full of homemade goodies, including various jacket potatoes, a dessert of the day and lots of yummy cakes.”
The next Freedom Café is on Saturday January 18, 10.30am to 1.30pm.
