Wanting to keep up with her kids was Hayley’s slimline tonic
Striving to be happy and keep up with her kids helped a Seaton mum lose five stone in less than two years – and now she’s inspiring others to do the same.
Hayley Burridge, of Havenview Road, tipped the scales at almost 15 stone in April 2011, but running and attending Weight Watchers classes saw the pounds drop off week by week.
She reached her target weight of nine stone 11 in November and became a class leader so she could show others how it’s done.
“It’s absolutely changed my life,” she said. “I’m happy as I am. It’s not about being skinny. It’s about being happy.”
Hayley was slim as a teenager but started gaining weight at college because of cheap food, cheaper drinks and a sedentary lifestyle.
“I wish at 18 I had the knowledge I have now,” she told The Herald. “Prevention is definitely easier than losing five stone, but I feel a lot better for it.”
She was overweight when she fell pregnant, and contracted gestational diabetes as a result, but lost weight so she could keep up with her son George, now two, and step-daughter Chloe, 13.
“They just know I can run around after them – I’m glad they never knew me as I was,” said the 32-year-old.
Meanwhile husband Paul also appreciates the change and gives her ‘admiring glances’, although he says he loved her no matter what size she was.
Hayley said the best way to stay on track it to keep up the momentum, even in the holiday season.
She added: “Christmas is just one day. As soon as you’ve finished enjoying it, remember that you want to be happy and healthy, and get back on it the next day – and join Weight Watchers in January!”
Hayley’s Weight Watchers classis at St Francis Hall Sidmouth moves to Monday evenings from next month.
