Fantastic boost for Honiton charity.
Honiton-based charity See the Future has received a fantastic boost after winning the support of an East Devon business networking group.
It has been selected as the East Devon Business Initiative’s (EDBI) chosen charity of the year for 2014.
See the Future was set up by Leanne Greengrass to raise money for research into eye conditions which can lead to sight loss. She was inspired to set up the charity after her mother Jacqueline was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer following a routine eye exam.
Leanne said: “When I heard we had been chosen by the EDBI as their charity of the year I was absolutely thrilled. I know quite a bit about the group as my dad John is a member and he regularly attends their Friday morning meetings at Woodbury Park Golf and Country Club, so there’s a strong family connection already.
“I know that they have raised thousands of pounds for their chosen charities over recent years, and I hope together we can raise a lot of vital funds to support the work of See the Future.
“We’re already talking about ways we can cooperate on a number of events, including See the Future’s Summer Ball, which is planned for September 19, at Woodbury Park.”
The chairman of the EDBI Pete Chubb added: “Members this year voted overwhelmingly to support See the Future after meeting Leanne and hearing her story. We were touched by her dedication and determination to raise awareness of sight conditions and raise money to do something to help.
“Half of all sight loss in the UK is preventable, and we hope our support for See the Future can do something to tackle this issue.”
