Economics students from The Axe Valley Community College cashed in on a visit to The Bank of England and the Adam Smith Institute.

Fifteen A level students accessed the museum as well as having a personalised presentation linked to AS and A2 economics and how the Bank of England supports the Government in managing the economy.

They also took part in a sixth former conference at the Adam Smith Institute, discussing wide ranging topics including ‘Why Liberty works’, ‘Is the Government solving its debt problems?’, ‘Moral panics in a post-moral age’ and ‘The end of politics and the birth of democracy’.

Speakers included Douglas Carswell MP and Brendan O’Neill, editor of Spiked.

Students enjoyed some lively and entertaining debates, summed up by Max Guppy: “The debates opened my eyes to the topic of free market economics and libertarianism. It was very interesting.”

During the trip student Alex Haworth got to hold a gold bar worth £319,939.
