50 per cent of funding found to go towards the new ceiling track hoist and disabled changing bench in Honiton.

An appeal to drum up funds for a specialist hoist for keen swimmer Jamie Dyer from Honiton is well under way.

Leisure East Devon (LED) told the Midweek Herald that it has approximately 50 per cent of the funding so far for the ceiling track hoist and disabled changing bench at the swimming pool at Honiton Leisure Centre.

The local community has come out in force to answer the nine-year-old’s plea for help.

Jamie, who suffers from cerebral palsy, regularly uses the swimming pool for his physiotherapy treatment and without the specialist hoist at the pool his mum June fears he may not be able to access the facilities.

LED has set aside £2,000 for the equipment which will be added to donations. It is currently awaiting the results of other funding applications.

Honiton Twirlstars are planning to host a special fund-raiser for Jamie tomorrow (Thursday). They will be performing a Hallowe’en themed show outside St Paul’s Church at 3pm.

This will be followed by a collection in Lace Walk.
