Axminster woman in line for a top Devon tourism award - thanks to her boss
A 22-year-old Axminster woman is fast gaining a five star reputation for her work in the holiday industry.
Tara Dare, a former Axe Valley College student, is in line for a major honour at next month’s Devon tourism awards.
But news that she was a finalist in the outstanding customer service category came as something of a surprise.
Tara had no idea that Joy Raymond, owner of Hedgehog Corner, at Uplyme, where she works, had entered her into the contest.
Tara said “I was astonished when I was given this news. I am really looking forward to the awards night at the Saunton Sands Hotel on November 22.”
Joy said: “Tara has worked at Hedgehog Corner since she was 15. She often takes sole responsibility for my business and can be responsible for up to 34 holidaymakers camping, self catering or in the B and B at any one time. That in itself speaks volumes for the high regard in which I hold her. We work well together and there is never a dull moment!
“There has been a mystery guest from the Devon tourism panel visit Hedgehog Corner along with a detailed entry form with accompanying evidence to support the nomination. Tara is up against some stiff competition in the finals for one of the top three places.”
Joy, who is also a coach on the Axe Valley College ASPIRE programme, added that she was particularly thrilled with Tara’s success it is showed young people everywhere that their Saturday job could lead to permanent employment and other success.
