Tia gets the chop for FORCE

A kind-hearted school girl from Honiton has chopped off her long locks to help support cancer sufferers and their families.

Tia Fowler, who is a pupil at Farway Primary School, is hoping to raise as much as she can for cancer charity FORCE. She had her long hair cut short at House of Hair, Honiton.

The seven-year-old will also be donating her hair to the Little Princess Trust, which provides real-hair wigs to children who have lost their hair through cancer treatments.

FORCE is a cause close to the hearts of Tia and her family. Her mum Sara was diagnosed with ocular melanoma - a rare cancer affecting the eye - four-years-ago, and after undergoing radiotherapy treatment had to have her eye removed.

The charity has provided vital support, including counselling and children’s therapy sessions, to the family.

“We just thought it was nice to give something back for all the support we have had as a family,” says Tia’s mum Sara. “It has made so much difference. Before, I couldn’t talk about my cancer without bursting into tears.”

It has taken Tia five years to grow her long hair but she says she wanted to do something for charity.

Tia loves her knew hair cut and wants to keep it. The family have also said a big thank you to Linda Sansom, of House of Hair, for cutting Tia’s hair. There is a collection box for donations in the salon.
