A Honiton air cadet has been awarded a top honour for being the best male cadet in the country.

Cadet Warrant Officer (CWO) Jake Rosen, who joined 1064 Honiton Squadron six years ago, will receive the prestigious Dacre Sword at an award ceremony later this year.

The 19-year-old has an extensive list of achievements under his belt, including the completion of both flying and gliding scholarships in 2013.

He has attended a number of camps at RAF stations in the UK and abroad. This year he will be visiting Israel as part of the International Air Cadet Exchange scheme.

Jake said: “I have had a fantastic time as an air cadet; so many opportunities have been provided. As an instructor cadet I have been able to give something back to the younger cadets at the squadron.”

The former King’s School pupil has participated in a range of sports and adventure training activities, including canoeing, kayaking and surfing. He also achieved his Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in 2012 after taking part in an expedition to the Black Mountains of Wales.

Music plays a large part in Jake’s air cadet career. He is a founder member and former Drum Major of the Devon and Somerset Wing ATC Band.

Squadron leader Dave Rolfe, Devon and Somerset Wing media officer added: “CWO Rosen is an excellent ambassador for the air cadet organisation; he is a credit to himself, and his squadron.”

Jake is due to leave the air cadets later this year and hopes to pursue a career in marine engineering.
