Tour of Britain - East Devon timings and events

Cyclists taking part in the Tour of Britain will be racing through the East Devon countryside on Friday, September 9.

The elite athletes will be starting Stage Six of the event, which will see them start in Sidmouth and end at Haytor, on Dartmoor.

Those wishing to see the cyclists pass through will need to get to the route early.

Below are the estimated times of when the riders will pass key points on the route and some of the events that have been planned to take place to celebrate the Tour of Britain.

Monday, September 5 and Tuesday, September 6

6.30pm. Sid Valley Cycling Club will lead a community ride-out, a leisurely paced friendly cycle around Sidmouth. Meet at Kennaway House.

Thursday, September 8

3pm. Criterium race organised by Sid Valley Cycling Club and British Cycling. Races for men, women and young people.

A 1.3km town centre circuit that starts and finishes on The Esplanade.

8pm. Live entertainment at Dukes featuring ‘Eventime’.

Friday, September 9

Experience the exciting build up to the start and mingle with the elite riders as they warm up.

Why not arrive early, have breakfast and get an autograph or selfie with one of the riders?

8.30am. Cycling activities start and stalls open.

9am. Andrei Burton BMX stunt show.

9.30am. Team buses start to arrive along Peak Hill Road.

10am. Andrei Burton BMX stunt show.

10.30am. Riders sign on at the podium.

11am. Andrei Burton BMX stunt show.

11.15am. Representatives from Velo Vintage, Sid Valley Cycle Club, Active Mums and Bikeability students from Sidmouth schools take part in a lead-out ride.

11.20am. Leading riders presented.

11.30am. Race departs from outside Duke’s on The Esplanade.

11.40am. Andrei Burton BMX stunt show.

12.30pm. East Devon schools cycle race will take place in The Byes.

Friday, September 9

8am. Keen cyclists and cycling clubs are invited for a big breakfast before riding up Chineway Hill, the first King of the Mountain, to watch the riders arrive at the summit.
