‘Tres bon’ year celebrated by Axminster twinners

Association’s links with Douvres in Normandy continue to flourish

A ‘tres bon’ year was celebrated by Axminster Twinning Association at its combined annual general meeting and dinner.

Caroline Hillyard, who was re-elected chairman, told the gathering at The Ridgeway Country Hotel, Smallridge, that 2013 had been very successful, with more new members being welcomed.

Following the meal entertainment was provided with a repeat performance of ‘Old Uncle Tom Cobley’, originally performed by members to a French audience in the twin town of Douvres.

This was accompanied by Peter Dawson on guitar, who also narrated in French.

In April members visited the Douvres la Delivrande, in Normandy. This was followed in June by a successful return visit to Axminster by the Douvraise for the Axe Vale Festival. In September a number of members returned to France for an equestrian event.

Social events in 2013 included a very successful quiz evening, skittles and guided visits to the Colyford Wetlands, shared suppers and a film night. The year ended with an excellent Christmas party. More social events are planned for the coming year.

Meanwhile a visit to Douvres is planned for June to participate in the war commemorations. The Douvraise will visit Axminster in July. It is also planned to attend the Equestrian Games in France in September.

New members are always welcome and the ability to speak French is not a requirement but an appreciation of French culture and a good social life is!
