A sponsored triathlon is being held in the town from Sunday, July 27, at 9am, and money raised will go towards the building of an extension at the club.

It is open to those aged 17 years old and over. Those participating will complete a 400 or 800m swim at Honiton Swimming Pool, followed by a 21km bike ride and a 5km run to finish.

The event is being organised by David Wellington and sponsored by Craig Bernhardt of B! Health and Fitness.

“The money raised will make a massive difference to the club,” says David.

Following the triathlon, a duathlon for juniors will be held, consisting of a 100m swim followed by three full laps of the Allhallows Playing Field. It is open to those aged 11 to 16.

Entrants can choose to pay £35 on the day or raise at least £50 through sponsorship. It costs £10 for juniors to take part in the duathlon

It is hoped money raised during the event can also be given to other local causes, including The Baton.

So far, around 70 people have already signed up. Anyone wishing to take part is urged to email David on wellyboot11@aol.com for more information.

The local community is urged to come out and support those taking part in the event.
