For those looking for a family day out, they need look no further than what is on offer in East Devon.

Seaton Tramway offers visitors a unique way to travel in the Axe Valley, as they get the chance to enjoy taking a trip between Seaton and Colyton.

While it will be closed for the season from the end of the October half term, there will still be chances to enjoy the journey along the banks of the River Axe, with the Polar Express taking to the rails later in the year.

Between Easter and the end of October, it offers a daily service and there are several out of season events, including bird watching specials, which offer visitors the opportunity to observe the wildlife on the Rive Axe estuary.

The tourist attraction has been part of the Seaton landscape since 1970, when it was opened in the town by its founder Claude Lane, who had operated a similar attraction in Eastbourne before that.

Over the years, it has been developed and recently opened new £3million terminus in The Underfleet.

The new station provides a contemporary, all-year round facility, café and gift shop, which allows visitors to immerse themselves in the history and operations of the tramway before boarding a tram and travelling back in time to a golden age of travel.

At the other end of the rails, the Colyton station occupies the building that was once part of the branch line that ran from Seaton Junction to Seaton – with the tramway now using the same route to the resort.
