Police are urging drivers not to take unnecessary risks as flooding forces the closure of several major East Devon roads.

The A30 is now impassable at Daisymount and the A376 is now closed, with motorists asked to take the A3052.

Some flooding has been reported on the A3052 near Aylesbeare.

Exmouth seafront has been closed off due to the water on the road.

There are flooded roads at Fenny Bridges and Heathfield Cross in Woodbury Salterton.

Drains are blocked at Clappers Lane in Honiton, Washbrook View in Ottery St Mary and Exmouth Road in Lympstone, with flooding possible.

A police spokesperson said: “There are very tricky and challenging weather conditions across Devon and Cornwall currently. We have had reports of localised flooding and some trees down.

“Please drive safely and with caution - reduce speed and check your lights are on. Do not take risks by driving into water on country roads.”

He added a reminder that people should report incidents of flooding on roads to the highways agency and not by dialling 999 or 101.

The Environment Agency has issued a flood warning for areas of Lyme Regis around the harbour, meaning flooding is expected.

There are also lower-level flood alerts for the rivers Sid and Otter and around the River Axe area, as well as coastal streams from Branscombe to Axmouth.
