Bomb disposal experts have made safe an unexploded device found in a garden at Axminster today (Tuesday, June 3).

Thought to be of German origin, the rusting shell was discovered in the grounds of a house at Alexandra Road.

Police were called at 9.15am and initially a 200m cordon was set up around the property but this was later reduced to 20m.

Six properties were evacuated and the bomb disposal unit attended and made the area safe.
