Tributes pour in for “kind hearted” Tom Chubb, 18, from Axminster
The Axminster teenager who died in a car crash near Musbury last night (Wednesday) has been named locally as Tom Chubb.
The 18-year-old was the son of East Devon District Councillor Iain Chubb, a Conservative who represents the Newbridges Ward. He lives with his wife Eve at Abbey Close, Axminster.
Tributes to their son, a former Axe Valley Community College student, have flooded in today.
One, on his social networking page, reads: “Rest in peace angel, you will be truly missed by everyone. You were such a kind-hearted person who didn’t have a bad word to say about anyone. You didn’t deserve this. We love and miss you – sleep tight.”
Another said: “You will be sorely missed…just can’t believe you’re gone. Our thoughts go out to your family”.
Mr Chubb died after his black Porsche was in collision with a white Peugeot van, at Trill. The accident happened at about 10.20 pm. The driver and passenger of the van escaped serious injury.
Firefighters from Axminster and Colyton attended the scene along with the heavy rescue vehicle from Middlemoor Exeter.
The crews extricated one male casualty from the van, using hydraulic rescue equipment. The casualty was taken to hospital by ambulance.
They also freed Mr Chubb from his car, using hydraulic rescue equipment, but he died at the scene.
Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision, or the events leading up to it, to contact them on 101 quoting log number 846 311012.
* Following the crash traffic was diverted around Hunters Lodge.
The road was reopened at 6.15am today (Thursday, November 1).
