Police have confirmed that a coach involved in a crash near Looe in which two people have died was from Age Concern Exmouth.

As previously reported, two people have died in the incident, one of whom it has been confirmed was a woman.

Seven other people were taken to hospital by air ambulance, and four others by land ambulance.

The remainder were treated at the scene for ‘walking wounded’ injuries.

Pauline Gaunt from the Confederation of Passenger Transport, speaking on behalf of Exeter coach operator Carmel, confirmed the incident involved an Age Concern coach from Exmouth.

In a statement on its website, Carmel Coaches said: “Carmel Coaches extends our deepest sympathies to those involved in today’s accident.

We are co-operating with the authorities in the investigation of this tragic event.”

Police say they were called to the incident on the A387 at Morval near Looe in Cornwall at around 1pm today, in which the coach collided with a hedge, and have declared it a major incident.

The coach was carrying around 40 people, who police say are all believed to be aged in their 60s and over.

A spokesman for Devon County Council said: “Our thoughts are with all the individuals involved with the crash, and their families. Devon County Council and the NHS are helping uninjured passengers return home this evening, and others requiring care into local community hospitals nearer home. Devon County Council will be supporting all those involved.”
