A waterfall of poppies made by young hands have cascaded down a Honiton shop front to remember the town’s fallen soldiers.

The special tribute was painstakingly made in more than six months by scouts, cubs and beavers in Honiton.

It will be on display at Petter Betteridge - Your Bed Expert, until November 12.

The ‘poppies’ are the sawn-off bottoms of soft drink bottles, which have then been spraypainted red and fasted onto a long net with zip ties.

Helen Turner, leader of 1st Honiton Scouts, said: “There are around 850 poppies in the waterfall. It was a struggle to find somewhere to display them, because we wanted them to be showcased as close to St Paul’s Church as possible. Thankfully, Peter Betteridge offered one of its shop windows.”

Dave Fletcher, store manager, added: “When Helen came to us, we were more than happy to assist.

“It think the waterfall of poppies is a fantastic idea, and it just looks superb.”
