Emergency services working across the region to deal with a large number of calls regarding road debris, damage to properties and flooding after overnight storm.

Police are warning motorists to ‘expect the unexpected’ on rural roads and drive according to the road conditions following overnight storms.

Multi-agency teams, including Devon and Cornwall Police, are working across the region to deal with a large amount of calls relating to road debris, damage to property and flooding.

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “There remains a host of minor road closures throughout the region due to road debris and fallen trees. Motorists are warned to expect the unexpected on rural roads and drive according to road conditions.

“Flood water should also be avoided and speeds should be lowered on the region’s main road network.

“People are asked to stay away from coastal areas where waves may well cause damage to vehicles.”

Fire crews have also been out in force across the region. Firefighters were called to deal with a dangerous structure last night (Wednesday) located at a back lane from Kilmington to Whitford, near Axminster. Firefighters also had to perform a rescue from water at Fenny Bridges, near Honiton.
