The Girl Guide and Brownie of the Year in Honiton receive the first ever Joe Gilson Memorial Shield for their efforts.

Claudia Lidster of 1st Honiton Brownies receives the Carol Gilson memorial shield for brownie of the year.

The first-ever winners of the Joe Gilson Memorial Shields for the Girl Guide and Brownie of the Year in Honiton have been named.

Claudia Lidster, 10, who has been a member of 1st Honiton Brownies since the age of seven, was named Brownie of the Year.

The best Girl Guide of 2012 shield was awarded to India Dicks.

Carol Gilson, who founded the Joe Gilson Mobility Scheme, donated the memorial shields.

She said: “The Girl Guides and Brownies are based in my church, Honiton Baptist Church, and it is so satisfying that these youngsters are being taught by their leaders the good values in life and respect. We are proud to have them in our church.”
