A frozen weekend on sporting pitches across the region gave us the chance to look back on a happy memory from 1966, as reported by Dick Sturch.
Lyme Regis travelled to Millwey Rise and the game was won for the visitors by a long hopeful lob from Ginger Bartlett ten minutes before the end.
Rise never reached their best form as they battled out a goaless first half. It was Lyme who went ahead within a minute of the restart through Tony Messer, who was leading the attack for the first time that season.
Millwey equalised when ‘keeper Jock McLennan dropped a Roger Hurrell shot over the line. Then along came Bartlett with his match-winning goal.
Stuart Broom, who sadly passed away earlier this month, had a great game for Lyme at left half and best of the Rise team was right-back Tony Turner, now aged 88 and current President of Millwey Rise FC.
