HHHC 1, Newton Abbot 0
Back ‘in harness’ after the long Christmas and New Year break Saturday morning saw Honiton Hornets at home to the South Devon side in a friendly warm up match.
Both sides naturally wanted to give their club a positive start to the second half of the season. However, by the final whistle the match had proved to be a successful one for the home side.
Although both teams were playing hard from the opening whistle and with play moving freely around, up and down, and across the pitch, neither side seemed to be able to gain a lead until well into the first half when Honiton’s captain, Sophie George, zipped the ball sharply across the circle to where Emma Adams was waiting ‘in the right place at the right time’ and she certainly did ‘the right thing’ with it!
No further goals were scored during the game, but Newton Abbot did make a number of forays into the Honiton circle. However they were unable to connect with the backboard, due to excellent play by the Honiton defenders, in particular Vanessa Trude, usually a half, but willing on this occasion to don the goal keeping kit, and she had a splendid game!
Player of the Match: Vanessa Trude.
Practices continue to be held on Tuesday evenings at Cullompton Sports Centre: 7 pm – 8.30 pm. Meet in Honiton at the Sports Centre Car Park at 6.30 pm if a lift is required. Contact details available at www.wcwhi.co.uk/Public/Clubs.php
