Hope Powell has been sacked as England Women’s manager, writes Mark Briggs.
The Football Association announced that the 46-year-old will not be taking the England Women’s team forward any further after a disappointing performance at Euro 2013 in Sweden.
England failed to advance past the group stages, and didn’t win a single match. Powell said afterwards “the domestic game needs more investment to compete with other leading nations”.
Powell, who has been at the helm since 1998 has had many highlights as manager of England, such as taking England to the Euro 2009 final, managing Team GB at the Olympics and being the first woman to be awarded the UEFA Pro Licence.
