AVR members have been in action at a number of different events recently, writes Carol Austin.

At the World Masters Track and Field Championships held in Malaga, David Cooke contested the M60 400m. With 60 athletes in the heats it was always going to be a challenge and after a tough heat he was unable to progress to the semi-finals, finishing 31st overall.

However, he was selected to run for the British team in the 4 x 400m relay, helping the team finish fifth behind Australia, Germany, USA and Spain.

Despite Saturday’s drizzle there was a clutch of PBs for AVRs at Seaton Parkrun this week, including Kevin Feeney, 22:59; Janet Cullum, 26:55; Diane Newton, 30:15; Jenny Ford, 30:18 and Irene Croad, 31:52.

AVRs also dominated the age graded results with Carol Austin first with 79.33 per cent, Janet Cullum second with 77.65per cent and Angela Kerr third with 25.44per cent.

On Sunday, Rob Collier took the spoils at the Stockland Scamper 10k with his first ever win in any race.

It was a close tussle with Ollie Rodger all the way round with Rob just managing to pull away with 200m to go to finish in 43:13 with Oliie second in 43:24. AVR also secured third with Terry Emmett in 44:02. Lee Moran was next AVR in seventh place in a time of 49:01.

Other AVRs who completed the muddy Scamper were Joel Seward, 50:15; Rupert Pady, 50:18; Richard Jackson, 51:35; Andrew Hartnell, 54:47; Anders Larsson, 56:50: Cliff Marriott, 1:00:17; and Henry Smith, 1:02.53.
