Archant

Five AVR members made the short journey to Honiton to run a very boggy, muddy and foggy Honiton Hippo which as its name suggests is also a pretty wet affair climaxing in the runners having to cross through the River Otter, writes Dave Mutter.

It was also very nearly a false start Grand National style!

Out of 225 finishers James Trewick came in a very creditable fifth in 56:01, Eleanor Wood 35th, 1:06:11; Alan Morbey 60th, 1:13:19, a full 15 minutes faster than his time last year. Rachel Tytherleigh was 95th, 1:21:56 and Jacqui Rees-Lee 109th, 1:24:49.

In the juniors’ Hippo Calf race Bobby Simpson achieved a fantastic first place in 11:30. Florence Swann was first girl, fifth overall in 12:53 with Mia Bartlett, second girl, sixth overall in 12:56. As always a very big thank you to Honiton Running Club for staging the event and making everyone feel so welcome.
