AVR runner Devine-Wright delights at Four Trigs race

PUBLISHED: 11:26 19 February 2014 | UPDATED: 11:26 19 February 2014

Last week’s Four Trigs involved 17 miles around the Lower Sid Valley ‘with an obscene amount of climb’ as the organiser puts it (about the same as the Grizzly, but over a shorter distance), writes Dave Mutter.

Conditions underfoot were predictably soggy, but the weather surprisingly good with only a brisk wind and no rain.

AVR’s Patrick Devine-Wright and Tim Lenton took the lead together right from the start, it was Devine-Wright who pulled away towards the end winning in 2:20, three minutes ahead of second placed Lenton.

James Jackson was fifth in 2:37 and relatively new member James Green, making his mark for the club in no uncertain way, finishing seventh in 2:46.

Lin Lascelles was 13th in 2:53, taking some surprising AVR scalps by finishing ahead of James Trewick and Alex Todd who came in 14th, 2:53.

Martin Lascelles was 20th, 2:58 and Jon Day 25th, 3:02. A motley crew were 33rd with Eleanor Wood, Simon Bayliss, Matt Clist and Garry Perratt crossing the line hand-in-hand in 3:17, Matt and Garry completing their second circuit of the course that day (their first having been about 2:55). Phil Bayliss had run with the group most of the way, but had to short-cut back to the finish with a painful foot (or was it just the thought of the last few rollercoaster miles from Weston Cliff to Sidmouth?).

Steven Lewis was 59th, 3:33 and Team Tubbs (Jess, Sue and Neil) 74th in 4:10.
