Six AVRs turned up to run the gruelling, hilly, wet, windy and muddy Jurassic half marathon at West Bay near Bridport – the sort of conditions and terrain which AVR love, writes Dave Mutter.

Graham Newton, freshly returned from Ireland, started steadily, but ended up ploughing through the runners, finishing superbly, strongly winning the only male vet prize - vet 50 plus, 23rd in 2:03:42. Eleanor Wood was next home, 26th, 2:05:35, enjoying the windy tough conditions and winning first female vet 50 plus.

Andrew Hartnell had a great run in 2:12:25. Richard Jackson was next, 41st, 2:13:14, and he was happy with his run. However, someone who was not so pleased was Roger Bramley, who suffered a calf pull and had to limp home, but still got a chipped time. Henry Smith, in the midst of his marathon training, completed the team with a strong finish 62nd in 2:39:00.

● Lee Moran won the August Senior handicap in a new PB of 22:46 with Andrew Hartnell taking second place in 25:48 and Rob Collier finished third in 21:32.

Andrew Hartnell leads the standings with 124 points with Kerry Board and Rob Collier joint second, both on 116.

Rob Collier took part in the Thames Meander Half Marathon whilst on a visit to his daughter, who also took part.

It was an out and back road/trail race on a flattish course from Kingston to Kew. Rob finished 14th out of a field of 387 in 1:27:33 and Hannah 257th in 2:07:57. It was the first half marathon for both of them.

● As you do when in Australia, AVR member Duncan Staddon ran the Sydney City to Surf 14km run, which is a massive event in Sydney and has been running for 47 years.

Duncan ran very well to finish 279th out of 67,242 runners in 52:56.

Another AVR, Carolyn Nation ran the London Pride 10k at Victoria Park and managed to complete the three laps of the course in a time of one hour and three minutes, which is a new personal best (PB) over the 10k distance for her. Carolyn finished 748th out of 851 runners.
