Luckily for 49 runners, Sunday was a tad cooler than Saturday for it was the Dalwood 10K multi-terrain race, writes Dave Mutter.
While not being as strenuous as February’s Three Hills Challenge from the same village, it still features a ‘significant hill’, not to mention a handful of other hills! Despite having done Garry’s mad 50-mile cyclo-cross on Dartmoor in Saturday’s heat, Matt Clist stormed round to win in 39:24.
That was particularly impressive since he finished well over a minute ahead of Honiton’s Kevin Hawker in second place. Evergreen Phil Bayliss was seventh (and first over-50) in 46:50, Rupert Pady eighth, 47:31 and Chris Keeffe 12th, 49:50. Eleanor Wood was 14th overall and second lady in 50:11, Ian Clements 23rd, 55:23; Keith Agland 30th, 58:42; Jacqui Rees-Lee 33rd, 59:56; John Mellowdew 41st, 1:07:20 and Sue Venn 43rd in 1:10:14.
The race was the ninth in the East Devon Community Race Series in which Eleanor retains her lead, with Honiton RC still winning the team competition.
