AVR athlete Tim Lenton crowned ‘King of the Hill’ at Farway 10k race

On probably the warmest morning of the year so far, 10 AVR’s turned up at the village hall in Farway for the Over the Hill and Farway 10k race, writes Dave Mutter.

The early part of the run has a steep difficult hill to ascend and there are prizes for the first female and male to the top.

Tim Lenton was crowned King of the Hill and Eleanor Wood, after cycling 388 miles to Lands End and back last week, was the acclaimed as Queen of the Hill. Matt Clist, after feasting on pasties and toblerone on the same cycling trip, stormed home to break the course record winning in 37:10. Tim Lenton eventually finished third in 39:57.

Two other AVR runners finished in the top 10 with Phil Bayliss 9th in 45:16 and young Bobby Simpson not too far behind him 10th, 46:06. Eleanor Wood came home third lady, 21st overall in 49:36 followed closely by Nick Adams 22nd, 49:46. Next home feeling the heat was Alan Morbey in 56:00 followed by Keith Agland, 57:00; Martin Kerr, 1:09:57 and John Claydon 1:19:16.

In the junior intermediate race Adam Burrough did very well to finish first in 16:31 and Mia Bartlett was seventh taking 17:19.

Thank you to Farway Primary School for putting on a most enjoyable race along with the usual hot and cold drinks and cakes afterwards.
