Last Sunday AVR athlete Graham Newton took part in the 10-mile Doone run, writes Dave Mutter.
This year being the 30th Anniversary it was decided to run it in reverse, which meant the runners were faced with a very steep start up the zigzag path from Lynmouth to Lynton and the Valley of Rocks.
Overall, the course includes over 2000 feet of climbing along part road, part trail, part footpath, coastal paths, wooded riverside banks and fell side slopes.
The race was won by Arran Tocknell in 1:10:26.
Newton came in 32nd out of 200 runners, in 1:28:20 to win the Over-60s men’s trophy.
