On a glorious summer’s evening, Axe Valley Runners took on a Seaton Tram in the annual Tram Race, writes Dave Mutter.

This year a super-fast tram managed to win the race from Colyton to Seaton in a time of 13:43.

First AVR team called ‘Super Charged’ comprising Alex, Matt, Josh and Chris Keeffe were closest in 16:36 followed by the Red Team in 17:13 and just behind them the Gold Team, 17:42.

After all this exercise, about 50 people decamped to the Bayliss beach hut on Seaton Beach where there was a feast of hot dogs, cakes and drinks which went down a treat as did the desserts which other AVR’s brought down

Because the weather was so warm, many people - mostly the young ones it has to be said - went for a quick dip in the sea.

Phil Bayliss then presented the annual awards to the juniors as this was their last Monday evening until September which were:

Junior Female Runner of the Year Mia Bartlett; Junior Male Runner of the Year Matthew Thurgood; Most Improved Junior of the Year Adam Burrough and The Chris Levene Junior Trophy for Endeavour for the Year Bobby Simpson.

Thank you to everyone who took part and to Phil and Vikki for allowing us to use their beach hut plus of course Seaton Tramway for their super tram and excellent driver. The real winner will be the Devon Air Ambulance who will benefit by the £100 donation from the event.
