Axe Cliff Ex Captains Cup win for Pauline Willis

Half a dozen ladies took part in the Axe Cliff ladies Ex Captain’s Cup, writes Dave Bruce.

Not surprisingly it was closely contested and, at the close of the action only a few points separated the field.

However, the most competitive proved to be Pauline Willis with a fighting 35 points. Hot on her heels were Sandra Walker and Jo Donmall, both on 33, with Sandra taking second spot on countback from Jo. The remaining three players all had 21 points which just goes toi show what it takes to become captains.

On Wednesday, all members on the course with a three-fold competition; the monthly medal;

the Lorraine Cup, which was open to any lady who won a monthly medal last year and the next round of the Axe Cliff Golf Cup.

Once again the scores were very close especially at the top. Jill Wellington won the Lorraine Cup with a fine nett 73, but only on countback from Helen Kenworthy. Helen was also the lowest gross score. The positioning remained the same for the Axe Cliff Cup.

Axe Cliff captain Caroline Bond,took third spot with a nett 75.

In the Monthly Medal, third place went to the newest lady member, Jo Hopgood, who plays off

54, so is only eligible for the cup competitions playing off 36, but she had a good medal round to come in with a nett 74,
