Rob Heard won the Axe Cliff seniors’ Crossfield Cup, which is played over the summer, taking best individual hole scores over the period with a nett 61.5, writes Dave Bruce.

A close second was Mick Swann on 62.4 while Tony Strong took third spot with 63.06.

The Ron Miller Claret Jug was fiercely fought for with the top spot going to Chris Walker and David Evans with their score of 66 points. Dave Weston and Bill Polley came second with 65, leaving John Hanna and John Purdy in third place with 64. The only two of the day came from Brian Thompson. Last Friday saw the start of our Winter League with pairings for teams being drawn out of a bag. The conditions were a mix of a cold wind with sunshine, but the elements did not stop the strong team of Alan Morgan and Mike Jamieson winning with 37 points. Second were Paul Curtin and Mick Swann with 35 and captain Dave Bruce had a rare podium spot taking third place with 34 points, thanks in the main to his partner Edward Backhouse, and this pairing could be the team to watch!
