Axe Cliff title for Tony Strong

Twenty-seven Axe Cliff seniors took part in Friday’s medal, the final of four similar rounds to determine the ‘Masters’ champion for 2014, writes Helen Kenworthy.

The winner, way out on his own from the first round was Tony Strong (9), who added another excellent round of 72 to win both the medal and the championship.

Second place in Friday’s medal went to Phil Wilkins (15) with a nett 73 and third to Dave Weston (18) with 75 nett. Wilkins also netted the only two of the day. In the Masters, second place went to Neil Moorcraft (20) and third to Bill Polley (16)

The men’s section played for the Grainger Prior Trophy and this produced victory for Steve Reed with a net 66.

In second was Alan Kenworthy with his net 69 and third place went to Steve Bond with net 72. There were four twos with two players bagging a brace each, Richard Gibbons and Steve Reed.

The Axe Cliff ladies played an EG (English Golf) medal and this was won by Helen Kenworthy with Glenda Board taking second place and Helen Gaudie claiming third.

The ladies also recently contested the Granny Bowl and the Not Granny.

The winner of the Granny Bowl was Bee Sammons and the victor in the Non Granny was Helen Kenworthy.
