In the absence of the ladies’ section captain, vice captain Jill Wellington took charge of a 9-hole better-ball stableford meeting, writes Pete Motson.

The number of competitors was restricted due to heavy rain and persistent showers.

Despite the wet conditions the scores were close, with Jill Wellington and Margaret Kenchington narrowly winning with 19 points, over Jo Donmall and Janet Dack.

Meanwhile, the Axe Cliff seniors’ section played a Texas scramble match and in first place, with a score 65-1, were the threesome of Steve Gibson, Martin Chapple and Neil Moorcraft.

The runners-up, with a score of 67-3, were Phil Christmas, John Mant and Chris Walker and, in third place, with 68-2 were Dave Weston, Tony Strong and Brian Thompson. There were no twos recorded.
