Axminster bowlers show good form in trio of friendly wins

Axminster claimed three comfortable wins last week in friendly matches, writes David Harris.

First up they won a triples match away at Dunkeswell (76-45) with wins for John Hill, Margaret Brown, and Les Clark (23-5), Alan Brown, Derek Pheby, and Howard Keep (18-7), and Morrison Brown, Sheila Martin, and Frank Bridge (18-13) before beating Wrington at home (93-65) with wins for Joan Quick, Sheila Martin, David Harris, and Les Clark (35-13), Morrison Brown, Pam Hunter, Pam Clark, and Bob Sherborne (22-9), and Ann Clayton, Margaret Brown, Derek Pheby, and Margaret Crompton (24-16). Next up visiting Lyme Regis were defeated in a rain restricted match (14 ends). Axminster led on all rinks at the early conclusion, though Lyme were fighting back well!

The top home rink was the one of Morrison Brown, Barbara Mowatt, Ann Clayton, and Brian Clark (33-3).

However, Axminster came unstuck at Charmouth in another triples match were they lost 82-32 with only Pam Clark, Ann Clayton, and John Hill managing a win (19 –10).

Axminster ladies narrowly lost their home friendly triples game with Seaton (44-51) despite winning on two of the three rinks played – the winning rinks being Muriel Smith, Pam Clark, and Ann Clayton (19-14) and Daphne Ryan, Brenda Raistrick, and Margaret Crompton (15-10).

In the Mens’ Devon Over 60’s League there was a heavy defeat suffered a Bradninch where the home side won 49-17.

However, the team bounced back well beat Seaton B narrowly at home (40-36) with a win for Howard Keep, David Harris, and Doug Looskan (18-12).
