Axminster Bowls Club: It is with great sadness that we heard of the passing of Ken Clark and Terry Bryant, two greatly respected stalwarts of the Bowls Club for many years.

Axminster Bowls Club: It is with great sadness that we heard of the passing of Ken Clark and Terry Bryant, two greatly respected stalwarts of the Bowls Club for many years.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to both families.

On the playing side we have started 2008 in great style with three excellent victories.

The ladies started with a 70-40 win over Madeira with Marion Harris, Daphne Ryan, Lilian Lovatt and Sheila Martin excelling.(28-10).

This was followed by a mixed friendly victory over Dunkeswell (57-41) with Ossie Eke, Marion Harris, Alison Glyde and Margaret Crompton winning handsomely (28-10) and a men's victory over Sidmouth by 64-47 shots with Gerald Knott, Brian Downes, David Boyland and the indomitable Geoff Clode the most successful rink (28-13).

Between Christmas and the New Year the David Crompton Memorial Trophy was contested for the first time with Brian Parsons and John Wright beating Brian Shelton and Lilian Lovatt in the final. David's widow Margaret presented the trophy to the winners at the end of a very enjoyable day.
