Axminster bowlers have a poor week with one draw and three defeats

08:23 02 July 2014

Axminster bowlers endured a dearth of fixtures during the past fortnight with only two mens’ Over-60s and two mixed friendly matches played, writes David Harris.

The first of the Over-60s meetings was at Starcross where the home side won 44-25. This despite a good win for Brian Cursley, John Hill, and Bob Sherborne (17-15).

Next up a home meeting with Chardstock ended all square at 34-all. In this match there was a fine 18-13 success for Howard Keep, David Harris, and Doug Looskan.

Both the friendly matches played were lost. First yp a trip to Lyme Regis ended in a 109-73 reversal.

The only Axminster winners were Brian Cursley, Derek Pheby, Ann Clayton, and Doug Looskan, who enjoyed a 20-15 success.

Next up a visit to Kingsteignton saw Axminster beaten 73-63.

In this contest the visiting side had led for much of the contest before falling away towards the end of the match.

The wining Axminster rinks were Brian Cursley, Brenda Raistrick, and John Hill (18-14) and Pam Clark, Derek Pheby, and Bob Sherborne (16-15).
