Axminster defeat Taunton in the one bowls match to beat the weather

09:40 20 February 2014

The weather that continues to cause mayhem with sporting fixtures has also been hitting the sport of indoor bowls with the Axminster bowlers denied action in no less than five club matches last week, writes David Harris.

The nap hand of lost matches were two ladies’ friendlies, two mixed friendlies and one men’s friendly.

Just one match survived and that was the visit from Taunton BC who were beaten 77-57.

Axminster triumphed on all the rinks with the biggest winning margin being the 27-16 success for Joan Quick, Margaret Brown, Derek Pheby, and Bob Sherborne.

Morrison Brown, Lillian Lovatt, Neil Solomon, and Margaret Crompton won their encounter 28-21 and there was a two shot victory for Philippa White, Ken Quick, David Harris, and Brian Clark at 22-20.

There was yet more good news for the club’s talented teenager Steven Apsey who has been selected to play for Devon in their Under-15 match against Wales on March 2 in Newport.

All at Axminster wish Steven the very best of good fortune.
