In the mixed friendlies, Ax had good home wins against Budleigh and Dunkeswell, writes David Harris.

Ax beat Budleigh (75-54) with wins for Margaret Brown, Ann Clayton, Diana Courtenay-Smith, and Eric Skeemer (28-14) and Pauline Knight, Chris Todd, David Harris, and Bob Sherborne (25-15) and Dunkeswell (67-49) with wins for William Cook, Ann Clayton, David Harris, and Margaret Crompton (28-19) and Phil White, Barbara Mowatt, Marion Harris, and Brian Clark (22-13), and a tie for Mary Preston, Mike Preston, Diana Courtenay-Smith, and Eric Skeemer (17-17).

Alas, Ax proceeded to lose three away games- at Padbrook Park (35-86) with no winners, at Donyatt (29-85) again with no winners, and at Madeira (46-75) with one winning rink of Margaret Brown, David Harris, Malcolm Denslow, and Margaret Crompton (22-17).

The Ladies lost their Devon Foxlands League match against Kingsley (Westward Ho) by 57 to 85 shots with the home rink of Brenda Edwards, Lilian Lovatt, Pam Hunter, and Margaret Crompton doing well to win by one shot (17-16) whilst the away rink of Mary Preston, Ann Clayton, Judith Moffitt, and Alison Glyde were unlucky to lose by one shot (19-20)!

Congratulations must go to Ann Clayton and Alison Glyde who beat the strong pairing of Sheila and Margaret Crawford at Moonfleet (Weymouth) to proceed to the next round of the National Ladies Pairs Competition – we wish them good luck!
