Axminster have again done well in the mixed friendlies winning all three games played, writes David Harris.

Ax started by beating Taunton BC at home (80-38) with a resounding win for Brian Clark, Pam Hunter, Marion Harris, and Sheila Martin (37-2) and a good win for Phil White, William Cook, Jean Kesterton, and Margaret Crompton (25-12) before beating Sidmouth at home (77-38) with wins for John Hill, Daphne Ryan, Ann Clayton, and Marion Harris (31-11) and Lilian Lovatt, Morrison Brown, Gerald Knott, and Neil Solomon (30-11) and a tie for Margaret Brown, Barbara Mowatt, David Harris, and Margaret Crompton (16-16).

Ax won a tight game at home to Yeovil (58-53) with victories for Lilian Lovatt, Pam Clark, Ann Clayton, and Brian Clark (24-17) and Margaret Brown, Pam Hunter, John Chance, and Margaret Crompton (19-17).

The ladies lost their Devon Foxlands League game against Mid Devon (40-64) with no winning rinks but responded well by beating Honiton at home in a friendly match (52-40) with wins on all rinks – Alison Glyde, Pauline Knight, Diana Courtenay-Smith, and Ann Clayton (19-10),Phil White, Eve Cole, Daphne Ryan, and Margaret Crompton (16-14), and Margaret Stancliffe, Lou Harris, Jean Kesterton, and Judith Moffitt (17-16).

The men lost their Devon League Over-60s game against Honiton (73-82) despite winning both home rinks.

– Geoff Clode, Eric Skeemer, Doug Looskan. and Paul Moffitt (22-14) and Bob Sherborne, Howard Keep, Peter Eagles, and Ken Hickman (24-17). The men also lost a home friendly against Westlands (43-54) with narrow defeats on all rinks but everyone enjoyed the spread laid on afterwards by Ron and Leslie Bicknell !
